Three years from the beginning of the war in Ukraine
On February 24, we commemorate the beginning of the war in Ukraine. We remember that three years ago, the armed forces of the Russian Federation invaded a neighboring country. We acknowledge that in any war, the responsibility lies with the aggressor. And it is the aggressor who has the power to end the conflict immediately.
You can still join a number of organisations in Brno that are looking for ways to help Ukraine today.
Humanitarian aid is provided by the Brno for Ukraine initiative, which helps Ukrainian refugees in Brno and war-affected residents of Ukraine. Currently, you can contribute to the public fundraiser Save a Hero's Life! 2 through the Donio platform. The money raised from the fundraiser will enable the purchase and transport of medical supplies needed in hospitals and especially on the frontline. The Ukrainian Initiative of South Moravia is facilitating a fundraising to help wounded Ukrainian soldiers. Funds from the collection will be used to cover the costs of physical or psychological assistance to those wounded in combat. The collection is being held through the Darujme.cz platform. You can also physically join the activities of the Brno for Ukraine and Stand with Ukraine Brno initiatives. Every Tuesday in the Brno Market, camouflage nets are knitted, material collection takes place and ongoing events are organised. More information can be found on the initiatives' websites.
Opportunities to help can also be found in the communities around St. Joseph's Church, the Vesna Society, awareness-raising events are organized by the Institut Paměti národa Brno and many more.
