Conference on Cultural Non-Grant Fundraising

Conference on Cultural Non-Grant Fundraising

How to get funding for culture outside the well-known grant system? And what will convince patrons to cooperate? On Monday, 25 November 2024 at 10:00 a.m., the first all-day conference on cultural non-grant fundraising in the Czech Republic will take place in the venue of Husa na provázku Theatre in Brno, organised by the Department of Culture of the Brno City Hall in cooperation with the Centre for Experimental Theatre and the platform for cultural non-grant fundraising - ARTIKULA. Participation in the conference is free after registration.

Multi-source funding is almost essential for the functioning of the cultural and creative scene today. However, there is still a lack of a space where one can easily and clearly find out about its possibilities or develop useful connections. This is one of the reasons why this year, for the first time in the Czech Republic, the Conference on Cultural Non-Grant Fundraising will take place.

"How to get support from outside public sources is a question that is burning Czech culture more and more. We need other types of funding in culture, but we don't know how to work with sponsorship and donations yet. Many don't even try to do it. Moreover, cultural fundraising is specific - it has its own differences and different possibilities, compared to, for example, ecology or the social sector. In any case, there is great potential!" Martina Loneková from the ARTIKULA platform, one of the authors of the conference programme, describes the need for the conference.

The conference will take place at the end of November at The Goose on a String Theatre and is co-organised by the Department of Culture of the Brno City Hall, the platform for cultural non-grant fundraising - ARTIKULA and the Centre for Experimental Theatre in Brno. "As a cultural institution, we want to provide not only an artistic programme, but also an educational one. The field of non-grant fundraising offers interesting, yet rarely used, possibilities of cooperation for culture. By bringing together experts from different fields, we can educate each other and explore these possibilities." says about the conference the director of the Centre for Experimental Theatre Jan Búrik.

Experts from the field of fundraising, as well as professionals from cultural institutions, private and commercial sectors and crowdfunding will present their experience in three conference blocks. The conference will therefore be a unique opportunity not only to gain new information, but also a space for networking. Another author of the programme, Wanda Toader from the ARTIKULA platform, adds: "We have put together a line-up of great speakers who will introduce visitors to different ways to raise financial and non-financial support, as well as how to build community, work with the audience or expand your marketing through fundraising. We want to show visitors that it can be done, using concrete examples from large and small organisations, different genres or regions. And that it could work for them too."

The importance of the topic and the need for the conference is also emphasized by the Mayor of Brno, Markéta Vaňková: "The city plays various roles in the field of culture, from building and managing infrastructure to financing organizations or providing subsidies. However, we see great sense in attracting new forms of funding. It is an important skill that can pay off significantly over time."

Attendance at the conference is free, but registration is required for capacity reasons. The registration form can be found on the website kultura.brno.cz or under the link HERE. The conference will take place on Monday 25 November 2024 at 10:00 am, in the venue of Husa na provázku Theatre.
